DILS presents: Leaving the European Convention on Human Rights?

Dr Jacques Hartmann

Senior Law Lecturer at the University of Dundee

13th October @ 4.30pm

Carnegie Lecture Theatre CEPMLP

There is great uncertainty concerning the future of the 1998 Human Rights Act. The Government is planning to repeal the Act replacing it with a Bill of Rights. Whilst currently there are no concrete plans to withdraw the UK’s membership of the European Convention on Human Rights, several members of the Cabinet have argued that this should be the case. The presentation will consider the implications of repealing the Human Rights Act and withdrawing from the European Convention on Human Rights. It will consider how a repeal of the Human Rights Act will affect your human rights, such as the right to liberty and security or respect for private and family life.
