The Centre for Environmental Change and Human Resilience (CECHR) of the University of Dundee will be welcoming Professor Christopher Smout, Emeritus Professor in the School of History at St Andrews – an author and Scotland’s Historiographer Royal – on Thursday 23rd January 2014 at 4pm in the Dalhousie Building (2G11 LT4). Professor Smout will be presenting ‘Environmental lessons from the history of the Firth of Forth.’
Professor Smout’s most recent book is called ‘The Firth of Forth: An Environmental History,’ written with Mairi Stewart. In this book he paints a picture of one of the country’s major bodies of water and analyses human interaction with the environment over thousands of years. How far people have affected the Forth’s wildlife and how has the environment determined human civilisation in the area.
